چکیده

This paper deals with the influence of steel composition (with respect to the microalloying elements) and therrnomechanical treatment on structure and mechanical behaviour of HSLA (High Strength Low Alloy) steels. Four different microalloyed steels have been TM rolled under variing conditions. The austenite structure prior to transformation could be revealed by means of a special etching technique. The precipitation behaviour has been studied by TEM, STEM and APFlM investigations. The results of mechanical testing can be explained in terms of structure (both austenite and transformed material), steel composition and TM treatment. It could be shown how precipitates in different steels influence the recrystallization behaviour of the austenite and how the austenite structure is related to the transformed structure. For example, fine strain-induced Nb carbonitrides prevent or reduce recristallization. Addition of Ti leads to relatively coarse complex carbonitrides. As a consequence, the content of solute Nb decreased and only few Nb carbonitrides precipitate during deformation. Hence the Ti-bearing steel shows a stronger tendency for recrystallization and the mechanical properties (especially the low-temperature ductility) deteriorate.

Effect of Heat Input on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties in Friction Stir Welding of HSLA-60

High-strength low alloy steels are a class of steels used in applications that require high strength and good weldability, including ship hulls, gas pipelines and oil industry. One way to build parts is fusion welding that create areas with a large grain size in the heat-affected zone and increased susceptibility to hydrogen cracking. One way to solve this problem is to use solid state friction...

Determination of Niobium precipitations in micro alloyed steels

Micro-alloyed High Strength Low Alloy steels (HSLA-steels) are widely used in civil construction, automobile and line pipe applications. They contain small quantities of alloying elements between 0,01 – 0,1 wt%, such as Niobium, Titanium, Vanadium, Aluminium and Nitrogen. These steels rely on thermo-mechanical rolling, a technique that simultaneously provides high strength, excellent toughness ...

Effect of Heat Treatment on Microstructure, Magnetic and Mechanical Properties of HSLA-100

In this study, the effects of various heat treatments on microstructure, mechanical and magnetic properties of HSLA-100 steel were evaluated. The heat treatments consisted of austenitizing at 900°C for 60 minutes, then quenching by different cooling rates via furnace, air, oil and water; and quenched specimens were aged at 600°C for one hour. Optical and field emission scanning electron m...

Niobium Alloyed High Strength Steels for Automotive Applications

Modern vehicle bodies make intensive use of high strength steel grades to meet the contradicting demand of lighter weight and simultaneously better mechanical performance. For many steel grades microalloying by niobium is the key to achieve their characteristic property profile. In HSLA steels niobium enhances the strength primarily by grain refinement. In interstitial free high strength steels...
